A tree of death on a cliff, and a portal of dark flame.
The crimson shroudch. 19
Climbing by day, Samson and Antony find “a crimson shroud … beneath a tree of death, standing like a tombstone that blotted out the sun.” Its dark flame bursts into a portal that comes “once in twenty years,” and a wind nearly throws Samson from the cliff. Through it, “emptiness and fullness meet,” and he stands under a tree of life glowing like the sun.
